Sue Curtis
Sue has enjoyed more than 30 years of photography experiencing a wide range of techniques and subjects, including nature subjects landscape, astrophotography (with a telescope), plant macro and birds, and award-winning underwater photography. She likes to integrate the technical aspects of photography to pursue unique effects and ideas.

Sue's long time career in scientific research and diagnostics has progressed to providing 15 years of education at TAFE and University.

The opportunity to combine teaching and share her love of photography with other people has been a rewarding experience with Wollongong Photography Group.

Sue has a side photography business operating as Sue Curtis Photography with a focus on Pet and Family session photography as well as Junior Sport Teams and Portraits.

Architecture in Black and White Photography Meetup - UOW Innovation Campus Wollongong - 3pm - 2 Hours
Explore the modern built world in monochrome highlighting shapes, textures, contrasts and compositions using patterns and symmetry.

The world in Black and White emphasises the play of light on the subject, simplifying the relationship between the structure and the environment.


The modern buildings of the UOW Innovation Campus have numerous architectural features -perfect for interpretation in Black and White.

We will discuss how to approach photography in Black and White and how this differs from colour photography.

This will be a relaxed walk around the campus suitable for all mobility access

Beginners Photography Class - Boonerah Point Jetty, Lake Illawarra - 3:00pm - 3 hours
Boonerah Point Jetty has been the subject of many noted photographers. This is your chance to learn to navigate and understand aperture, shutter speed, and ISO operating your camera in manual mode rather than auto.

The waters of Lake Illawarra, birdlife, and shore will provide plenty of subject material.
After the session, if you choose to stay longer, sunset is at 4:53pm

Nature and Photography Walk Meetup - Maddens Falls, Dharawal Nature Reserve - 5:30pm - 2 hours
Enjoy an easy walk to the Maddens Falls Lookout, where we will be photographing the waterfalls, birds and bush flowers.

Some agility is required to walk down to the second level of the falls.

Towards the end of the session sunset is at 7:23pm where we can view the spectacular bush landscape from the top of the falls.

Thursday the 9th of December 2021
Christmas Lights and Night Photography - Wollongong Central Shopping Mall - 7:30pm - 2 hours
Get into the festive spirit as we photograph the Christmas light installations in the Wollongong Crown Street shopping mall. We will also walk to nearby areas to photograph the city urban lights.

We will use low light photography techniques and long exposure to show the Christmas lights and city vibe at its best.

Night Photography Meetup - Port Kembla outer harbour - 7:30pm - 2 hours
Enjoy the lights of Port Kembla industrial area at night with Sue Curtis. We will be using a vantage point near Port Kembla for a view of the steelworks and loading terminals

You will use long exposure to bring out the colours and vibrancy of the lights. Also learn creative techniques such as zoom lens movement and panning for special effects.

Getting Off Auto - Beginner Intermediate Class - Bass Point Shellharbour - 9am - 3 Hours
In this class we will walk from the Bass Point Gravel Loader along the rocky shore and sandy inlets along the Bass Point Peninsular.

Taking in the local scenery, we hope to capture glimpses of shore life, birds and perhaps a seal amongst the rocks and vegetation.

In this relaxed class you will become confident using manual exposure settings, different focus methods and composition guidelines.

Bird and Lagoon Photography Meetup - Bellambi Lagoon - 8 am - 2 hours
Bellambi Lagoon supports a wide variety of birdlife in an easy to access area.

We will start early hoping to observe and photograph local bird activity.

This will be a relaxed session stopping at a few vantage points and quietly waiting for our subjects.

Meanwhile we will discuss equipment and techniques to improve your bird photos along with some tips for bird watching.

Bring a telephone lens (if you have one) and something to sit on.

A bird identification guide and a list of frequently sighted species will be provided.

Saturday the 30th of April 2022
Seashore rocky platform Macro and Sunset Photography Meetup - Austinmer Brickyard Point - 3pm - 2 hours
The Austinmer Brickyard Point headland leads to a large level rock platform with numerous water holes and gutters, being the home for invertebrates, seaweeds and grasses.

We will be looking for inhabitants for close up and macro photography as well as interesting rock formations and impressions.

We will discuss minimum focus, depth of field and focus stacking.

Bring some thing to lay on or kneel on (if you wish to get close) and a macro or lens suitable for close up.

If the swell is suitable and safe, we could also try some long exposure images of the large cracks in the rock shelf.

Sunset is at 17:14pm if you wish to stay a bit longer to finish the afternoon with a coastal sunset.

Ryan North
Ryan North is a photographer with a passion for nature, although his experience spans diverse artistic genres. His photography has taken him throughout Australia and around the world (from New Zealand to Mongolia). Ryan’s artistic endeavours started young and developed quickly, earning him titles like RAW Artists Wollongong Photographer of the Year (2014), Australian Geographic’s Junior Nature Photographer of the Year (2015, 2016), as well as recent commendations from Australian Photography Magazine. Ryan is enthusiastic about helping people learn photography and enjoy any time spent shooting.
