In this 3-hour class, you will learn how to plan, map and set up your camera to capture multiple timed images of the night sky creating a circular star trail around the south celestial pole.

You will be provided with some preparation tasks to complete prior to the class, to maximise your success in capturing star trails on the night. We will aim to set up a two-star trail series, using different time methods. While the cameras are recording the images, we will be able to further discuss techniques or if you have a second camera - take other night sky photographs.

This class includes a complimentary Zoom session to help you with post-processing your images.

Building on the basics, we will devise a workflow starting with Lightroom for basic editing and mask use, progressing to Photoshop for refinement with cloning, dodging and burning, filters, and combining elements from different photos, and then returning to Lightroom for exporting and adding watermarks.

Follow this progress as we create a composite image demonstrating each stage of the process.

Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Wollongong .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

    The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

    This is the third time I have done a workshop on Macro photography but the first time I feel that I would be able to do Macro. I am looking forward to doing macro photography at home when I can do it with patience and take my time. Seeing the results of fellow photographers has given me ideas how I can use macro photography artistically.

    Sue has enjoyed more than 30 years of photography experiencing a wide range of techniques and subjects, including nature subjects landscape, astrophotography (with a telescope), plant macro and birds, and award-winning underwater photography. She likes to integrate the technical aspects of photography to pursue unique effects and ideas.

    Sue's long time career in scientific research and diagnostics has progressed to providing 15 years of education at TAFE and University.

    The opportunity to combine teaching and share her love of photography with other people has been a rewarding experience with Wollongong Photography Group.

    For 2 weeks every winter Sydney is lit up with amazing colours and beams of light over the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, and various buildings throughout the city. I captured this photo of the Opera House from across the water at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. I used a slow shutter speed (of 1 sec) to capture light trails from the passing water craft, and I held my iPhone up against my lens to create an artificial reflection on the water.Canon R6ii, RF 70-200mm f2.8 (@ 70mm), 1s, iso 200.

Our Wollongong Photography Group were due to meet there on Sunday 2nd June, however the forecast was looking really bad, but the Wednesday night was a clear sky with no wind. Milkyway was fully up from 8pm and moon wasn't due to rise until 10.20pm, so there was a good window. The location involves walking over uneven rock platforms and jum

Takes me back to my days in the Navy and seeing the jets coming and going from Hickam AFB when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor NSY&IMF and would shoot a round of golf at Hickam AFB's Mamala Bay golf course after working on the submarines.
